I just read some sad news. James Doohan, who played Star Trek's beloved chief engineer "scotty" died in his redmond wa home. The cause of death was alzheimer's and pneumonia.

Shatner is reported to be in fine health, however.

Mr. Scott as he was always one of my favorites with his 'Aye, Aye Captain' and his Scottish brogue, which was fake by the way, he was very good at doing accents.

How many does that make from the original cast that has passed on?  2?

That depends (5.00 / 3) (#2)

If you count the actor who played Sarek, (Spock's father) as a regular (he wasn't, strictly speaking) then we're up to 3. DeForrest Kelly was first, then Mark Leonard (Sarek, plus a whole host of other characters), and now James Doohan.

I didn't know that (5.00 / 2) (#3)

Mark Leonard had died.  I liked him a lot as Sarek.

When that show first came on television, I sat there in awe and loved every last minute of it. Watched it in syndication for years after that.  I was in love with Spock.

Wonder what that says about me????

but in my mom's case, she liked watching him so she could point out when she was showing emotion.

I can't say that was my reason though, I was just pre-adolescent and thought he was 'hot'.  Don't ask me why, but to this day, I still find Leonard Nimoy very attractive!
