Buried

No longer will lice infested minimum wagers be forced to pack their rat chewed belongings into their smoke belching Dodge Ramblers to make way for beige office parks occupied by important public servants, like The Director of Lettuce Manipulation and Assitant Clerk in Charge of Peanut Butter Deplastifying, they'll be making room for Wal-Marts and Casinos and Megaplex Automobile Dealerships.

Yes, little nondescript governments have received the backing of The Supreme Court of the Unites States to exercise imminent domain to take whatever of your shit they want and give it to whomever they want under the guise of 'economic development' being a public use.

Maybe your little house isn't generating enough tax dollars. A warehouse filled with dog food, stretching as far as the eye could see, would bring much needed growth to your area and benefit the community as a whole, dogs in particular. Maybe if your house were bulldozed flat and you moved into a stretched out trash bag under a bridge somewhere the world would be a better place. Or maybe instead of a dog food warehouse some governor's brother-in-law builds much nicer new houses that would tax assess for 10 times what yours did. Who knows what could happen when people are trying to grow the economy.

Civilization indeed.

What kinda crack ARE the democrats smoking? (none / 0) (#4)

I never thought I'd see an issue where I'd side with the republicans over the democrats, but on this I am. Fortuneatley Conneticut's govenor is seeking legislation to temper this. That will put us up to what, 13 out of 50 states where private property rights are decently protected?

I guess it's a start.

Democrats == Communist. (5.00 / 1) (#5)
by Beef on Sat Jun 25, 2005 at 06:00:23 PM GMT

Republicans == Fascist.

2 sides of the same authoritarian coin.  Democrats will take away your property and rights for the good of the "people."  Republicans do same for the good of "industry."  Meh.

Living in a small rural area, I see this happening in almost leaps and bounds suddenly! Where we were this lazy little hamlet that seemed more like Mayberry, we are going to become a larger, more congested area within the next 3 years and that is just the tip of iceberg!

Farms are going fast and turning into WalMarts, Distribution Centers, Hotels and Malls.  We once had miles of corn feilds and tobacco, now we have buildings and factories and whatever they can dream up to build.

Working in Social Services has taught me well that we do not have a system that works.  I see far too much that makes me question why we put some of the people in office that we do.

One of the big reasons I tell people now days......and you voted and were happy with the outcome? How about now?

Not just farms, in fact, not mainly farms. (none / 0) (#2)

This ruling will seriously make an impact here in Arizona. Already, most older homeowners in small towns are being shoved out in favor of clap board subdivisions that they can charge 3x the property value for.

I am sure..... (none / 0) (#3)

It isn't just farms and farmland but anywhere they can push over older homes and make a huge development out of, they are going to do it.

We have a Nuclear Power Plant here and the lake surrounding it is absolutely gorgeous. 20 years ago, you didn't see anything around it, now you see developments all over the place and the homes are right next to each other and there is no space to really have privacy or enjoy the view of the lake.

It is like this everywhere and its getting worse all the time.  And the other problem is...they cut down all the trees.....maples, oaks, sycamores, ash, and replace them with loblolly pine trees.  Yes, they do grow faster and yes they do provide some windbreak, but not like the harder woods did.  It changes the land and the look of the property and it just isn't as effective as the original trees were.

Don't get me started on this.....I could bitch about this for hours!!
