With the election being a month away and all the frou-frou, nose hair picking that the candidates have done so far about their mutual armed service records........makes one wonder if we have really even had a chance to pick a solid candidate for either party.

dividing image

I think that we would have had less 'flip-flop' and less bullshit about whose record is more legit if Howard Deane had been the chosen Democratic candidate.

Deane was a strong, no crap, honest, straight forward kinda guy.  He would have made Iraq his main stance and would have held a no holds barred match with Bush on that.  He would have been a very strong opponent and would have killed all of Bush's comments with tough, honest and get your shit straight statements.

I don't dislike Kerry and I certainly like Edwards, but I feel the Deane/Edwards team would have been a lot better.  More for the simple man and the economy.  Less for the big insurance companies and interests that have held our country back from being a more 'take care of your own first' nation.

Don't misunderstand, I think we should help other countries and try to make a difference, but a difference has to made here at home too!  If you don't see the day to day problems of the people and actually know what they are, then you don't realize how badly our country needs to get more manufacturing back to this country and better medical help for those who don't have insurance....don't think that those on assistance have it easy, they don't.  First hand I know what you go through to even get medical help and food to eat.  The number of people on this is astonishing and lets face it, most people, blue collar or otherwise can barely afford insurance these days.  Are they supposed to die or suffer because they don't make enough money??

Bush would have us believe that the economy is doing well and unemployment is at a alltime low.  BULLSHIT!!!!  He cannot see the forest for the trees.  Of course he doesn't know what is going on, he is too busy worrying about his campaign and being re-elected to worry about the people who voted him into office.

Yes, I believe Deane would have been better, I believe he would have been a stronger voice for the American people and I believe he would make sure he represented the American people and not just his own interests.  Kerry might surprise me, but I have little faith in a man who cannot eat at McDonalds at least once in a while.  You have to come down to earth and be with your people to understand them.  I believe Edwards would understand, but I don't know about Kerry.

Perhaps when Deane runs again, he will get his chance to prove himself and we will be better for it.

As for now, I suspect we are in for another 4 years of 'whats in it for me?' from either party candidates.

I miss Harry Truman!!

Oh, sometimes we have these mental things that just won't go away.

My first husbands last name was 'Deane' and I was constantly reminded of that by his family so as not to spell it wrong, LOL!!  It became habit and there you have it.  Now I feel very bad that I spelled the mans name wrong..........DEAN no E!!!!!

If Dean had gotten the nod... (none / 0) (#1)

...he would be faced with a choice:

1. Promise to pull out of Iraq.
2. Promise to "stay the course."

Choice 1 would have lost him the election outright.  Choice 2 would have pissed off all of the coffee-house bloggers who got him the nomination in the first place.

That candidacy was dead from the beginning.  Edwards would have had the best shot against Bush.

A trial lawyer.

Please.

Maybe he could chase the ambulances driving away from the smoldering hole in LA when the ragheads get a nuke.

I'm a very pretty pony!

most politicians are lawyers or were lawyers at some point, so where is the difference in that?

Other than that they are military men or rich, spoiled, business men........can't see much difference there either.

So what was your point?

I would take my chances with the military men... (none / 0) (#15)

...and not the ones who join the Air National Guard to shirk duty and then occasionally show up, and not the ones that get fake purple hearts, throw all their ribbons away, betray their comrades, then parade their "war hero" status to 4 terms in the Senate.  Real military men who know the realities of war, and at the same time aren't afraid to defend our great land.

Also, I'm drunk.

that Edwards would have been the best shot against Bush as he is a very strong, but tactful person who seems to have the right ideas and the right mindset for the job.

One of the very reasons I will vote for Kerry is because Edwards is his vice........only wish it were the other way around, Kerry was vice, Edwards was running for Prez.

Still, Deane does have a shot in 4 years and don't be surprised if he comes out being the choice next time in the Democratic party........or perhaps at least Edwards running mate. :-)

I agree too... (none / 0) (#6)

I might seriously have voted democrat, had Edwards won the nomination.

However, there's something about Kerry that creeps me out.  I wish I could put my finger on it, but I can't.  In any case, I've learned to trust my gut feelings.  (Tried to accept a fiancee of a friend that bothered me, though I didn't know why, and later learned that he started beating her after they got married.)

Who's dead now?

where have you been????????

Hows life with the kids these days????

Yeah, you are right, when Bush wins, I don't see him losing this election, I just don't.  I might not like that very much, but still, it looks like he will be in another 4 years.

He might surprise me, I am one to admit that on any given day, the unexpected and impossible can happen.
