The Story:  Reclusive man with MS isn't heard from for two years.  Neighbors assume he went south to escape Winnepeg's nasty winters.  But he didn't.

Alright, I found this on Fark, and given that it appeared on yahoo news, some of you might have seen it before....  Nevertheless, it had to be posted.

That is just sad.  I mean, to be so disconnected from everyone that you are dead for 2 years and nobody knows it!  That just made me sad, I am not sure why exactly, because its the way he wanted it, but still, didn't anyone care enough to check on him at all?

As you said, the man clearly wanted to be left alone.  At the same time, I would think that someone would still have noticed sooner that something was wrong.  What was wrong with the mailman, that seeing junk mail and AOL CDs piling up over the course of 2 years didn't clue him in enough to report that something was wrong?

some dude living in the Regent (the same place where that psycho chick who kidnapped herself lived) died, and it was like two weeks before the smell got bad enough to indicate to the other residents that something was amiss.

But then, that's life at a megacampus these days.  No one cares about anyone else, unless he believes that they can facilitate his getting drunk and/or laid.  This dude was an engineering student.  No one cared about him.
