James M. Doohan has Alzheimers.

dividing image

James 'Scotty' Doohan was diagnosed with Alzheimers in the last few months.  Doohan is 84.

He is just in the beginning stages of the neurological disorder.

Doohan also has suffered for some time with Parkinson's disease, diabetes and fibrosis due to chemical exposure during World War II and the D-Day invasion in France.

Doohan, back in January, made a cameo appearance in the horror film "Skinwalker: Curse of the Shaman", this film has not yet been released.  This will probably be his last film appearance a spokesperson said for Doohan but he will attend the 3-day 'Star Trek' farewell convention Aug. 28-30.  All the surviving members of the original cast of Star Trek will attend.

Star Trek fans will surely be saddened by this news and will say a few prayers for Doohan and his family as he deals with this illness.

at 84 it isn't that bad really since he probably will pass on before the disease gets too far progressed.  That would actually be a blessing.

Alzheimers is one of the worst things I can think of to happen to anyone.  It is a terrorifying disease to the person who has it and its tragic and emotionally draining on the others family members and freinds who have to deal with it. I have seen several people suffer long periods of time with it and its just horrible.

Doohan has very young children, one 4 year old according to what I have read on the net.  Perhaps he will be spared his father no knowing him.

Doohan is 84. He is just in the beginning stages of the neurological disorder.

At 84 there isn't much to be sad about. Age will take him long before he forgets who his children are. Especially with the new whiz-bang meds.

and the D-Day invasion in France.

He got in on the largest "First Post" in the history of mankind.
