Here's where to look... (none / 0) (#6)

Did some snooping around...  This is the NIH's site, pointing to where to go for pill appearances.

Does anyone know where to find a list of pill numbers? Does the PDR have them?

Numbers on pills are generally just there to allow you to identify what it is.  The PDR does have them, but that's only for the name-brand drugs... I don't know if the generics are numbered the same way.  (The PDR is organized by manufacturer, and generics doun't wind up in it.  I find it to be a rather poor drug reference, except that it occasionally contains data on studies done on the drug.)

Basically, I think you should just look at the other pills in the bottle.  If this one is different, don't take it.  If they're all different, call the pharmacy because someone should lose their job.

I assume you mean pictures of generics? (none / 0) (#9)

The PDR is full of generic drugs, just not pictures of generic drugs. :-)

But no, the PDR is not full of generic drugs.  At least, not the 1999 edition I had a while back.  If there were any in there, I never saw them.  (Of course, it'll list the drug's generic name, but it only contains information on the brand drug.)

generics and the PDR (none / 0) (#14)
by MFS on Tue Apr 06, 2004 at 05:08:53 PM GMT

the PDR (full version - there is a small version- or at least was) contains all generics, listed in several tables such as brand name, generic name, manufacturer, etc.

I believe use the same convention. That way pharmacists don't kill people.

I don't think they do... (none / 0) (#16)

A medication I take just came out in generic.  The numbering is different on it.  Also, I've seen pictures of other generics for it (I was anxiously waiting for my co-pay to go from $30 to $10), which have other numbers than this.
