WTF?

I don't really want to condemn, or pile on this girl, because I'm sure there's going to be plenty of piling on in the next few days, but I thought I should make some comment on this, because the alleged kidnapping was supposed to have happened about a block from where I used to live, and I can give a little bit of insight on the matter.

There were a lot of really weird things about this, that should have tipped authorities to the fact that this was a hoax:
  • The girl walks out of her apartment, with no purse or anything, and leaves her car in the lot.
  • She's wandering around in a field a few days later, unharmed.
  • No one gets kidnapped on Regent Street. It's about the safest place you can be.

The big mystery about all of this is why it took Capital Police all of three days to put 2 and 2 together.

Another mystery is why she did it. I have one theory: I've known some TOTAL PSYCHO NUTJOBS in my time at Madison, both of the male and female variety. Three words:

CRY. FOR. HELP.

Maybe.

Also, what's up with that assault that happened to her about a week before? Did she fake that? If so, that confirms the "cry for help" hypothesis. If not, maybe she was being stalked, and decided to go run off and hide for a few days to get away from this person.

I am a bit confused here... (none / 0) (#5)

How does your (former) proximity to her residence bring any insight to the topic?

I'm familiar with the neighborhood and the community.

It has to do with the circumstances surrounding her story, not with her directly.

I know about as much as you do regarding this story, and I have been in Madison but once in my life.

I was thinking of joining the "I, 2, Have Been To Madison Once Before" support group., or the I2HBTMOB for short.

Instead, I will fake my own disappearance.

She'll get all the help she needs now. In a sense, it worked. It was a massive attention getter. Some people are probably pretty pissed, like say, the police, the media, her parents, etc. She'll be psychologically evaluated. The potential for her being charged with some thing here exists, which could take place in a few days as details unfold, I'm sure. Wouldn't you know, it will all be forgotten about in a week.

the only appropriate action is the death penalty.  Just like speeding.  Or fucking with John Ashcroft, the Taliban, Osama Bin Laden, and jetliners.

I'm a very pretty pony!

The worst that could happen (none / 0) (#3)

is that she's charged with Obstruction, and pleas down to Disorderly Conduct.

If she's mental, knowing the Dane County DA, they'll probably not even press.

This story has made me wonder from the beginning. (5.00 / 1) (#1)

It just didn't add up.  She is a very attractive girl and maybe there are some real issues here that she is unable to address and does need help.

Schitzophrenics often think they have been abducted and do this sort of thing.  They just don't know what is going on and can't get a handle on things.  I feel sorry for her either way.

With all the 'real' kidnappings and murders of young women in this country, it was a relief to find she was allright, well, at least physically.......mentally is still a big ?

Interesting that you mention schizophrenia. (none / 0) (#4)
by NerdGirl on Sat Apr 03, 2004 at 09:22:37 PM GMT

She's about the average age that schizophrenia appears at.  Whether it's that or something else, she's sure to get help now.

Who's dead now?
