This is a teeny bit self-serving, as this is an org I used to work for, and still do consulting for from time to time, but they are starting a massive relief effort for the millions of homeless in Sri Lanka (PDF). Shelter for Life has been in Sri Lanka continuously since 1999, helping victims of the never-ending civil war there, so they are in a good position to make an immediate humanitarian impact.

My great gransparents tried to help them way back by starting a tea planting operation. Hired loads of local labour and that. My grandmother always used to call it Ceylon BTW. Despite that, they got kicked out and the family were paid A FUCKING PITTANCE for the plantation*.

I figure my family has done their bit*.

* This paragraph is completely true.

* Just kidding - I threw $100 or so at Medicine Sans Frontiers. Donate now kids - it's the cool thing to do.
