I just finished reading "Underboss 'sammy THE BULL Gravano's story of life in the mafia" by Peter Maas (who wrote a bunch of other shit, some of it in the 70's).

You cannot read more unless you click the 'read more' link.

"Underboss sammy THE BULL garvano's story of life in the media" was written in america and published by harper collins and clocks in at 301 pages of words that most people can't be assed to read.

It attempts to tell the story of a young boy who grew up to become a trusted soldier in on of america's most prestigious criminal organisation.

But that's not what's important. What's important is that smamy got bling. He got bling bling. In fact, he got so much bling from whacking he was said to have bling bling bling. And he got to whack a lot.
He whacked far and wide. He whack whacked here, and he whack whacked there.

Here a whack
There a whack
Everywhere a whack-whack.

What 'underboss' fails to mention is that sammy gravano would end up alone, bald and betrayed by the government for whom he betrayed the criminal under world.

TRULY an italian-american icon!

To quote Peter Griffin once again... (5.00 / 2) (#10)
by News For Turds on Wed Dec 22, 2004 at 05:06:58 AM GMT

What do you want me to do?  Whack a guy? Off a guy?  Whack off a guy?  Because if you want me to do that, then you can just whack me off right now, 'cause I'm a married man!

British spellings....

Where are you from, again?

(Not that I'm implying you're a Brit...  I tend to be more comfortable with British spellings than American, and I've lived in Wisconsin my whole life.  Comes from reading too many British novels as a child, I suppose.)

Who's dead now?

I probably accidently chose the british ispell (none / 0) (#12)

There are days when...... (5.00 / 1) (#2)
by xxxxxxxxxx on Sun Dec 19, 2004 at 10:54:40 AM GMT

I sometimes feel like becoming a part of the largest criminial organization in the world and be a 'whacker'!!!!  It might get out some of my frustrations!! ;-)

Then again, who says you have to be part of the Mafia to be a good death angel.....you could just be free lance.

Hey, I am tired, stressed and its the holidays....I am trying really hard not to go Postal on anyone, but somedays are stones.

Mafiosos (sp?) are not the only ones who... (none / 0) (#3)

Dr. Mengele (5.00 / 1) (#4)
by xxxxxxxxxx on Sun Dec 19, 2004 at 02:28:37 PM GMT

was perhaps the cruelest in the Nazi regime.  He not only tortured and experimented on prisoners but he was completely in control of who lived or who died.

Not very much like a true physician and I find that so horrible.  Even Dr. Frankenstein wanted to make life, not torture and take it. (Yes, I know he was a fictional character but he was supposed to be a monster and I found him sad) Mengele I do not find sad, only horrible.

You are very right, you don't have to be a Mafioso to take lives, many do it for so many different reasons and some don't even get paid.  Mengele however lived like a Count or King and was very arrogant and detached.  So maybe the Mafia are better in some ways as they do have some codes of honor......Mengele had none.

another point about the mafia (5.00 / 2) (#5)
by Bold Marauder on Sun Dec 19, 2004 at 07:19:46 PM GMT

unless they had to make a point, they generally didn't engage in torture. This is untroll-like of me to admit, but I am driven to tears when I think of what mengele did to the twins he had power over.

True. (5.00 / 1) (#7)
by xxxxxxxxxx on Mon Dec 20, 2004 at 03:37:29 PM GMT

They generally have a reason for whacking you when they do it, the Mafia that is.   It might not be for a reason you or I would go to that extreme for, but for them it is part of the whole deal.  You break the code, you die for it.  Sometimes you just have to be in competition and that will get you whacked too.  All in all though, most of us have little to worry about when it comes to the Mafioso.....we are not part of their 'club'.

I am going to check that book out and read it, now that you have talked about it here.  I find those people interesting, and sometimes scary, but mostly just interesting.  Having studied Mengele and several others who were monsters during the holocaust, other groups seem very tame as far as being murderers compared to them.

I actually, honestly liked the book (5.00 / 1) (#8)
by Bold Marauder on Mon Dec 20, 2004 at 05:20:23 PM GMT

but bear in mind that it's told strictly from his side; basically (as crimelibary cattily pointed out) he gets to tell his story without being challenged.

Even with that, it's still a fun read.

He was one sick bastard (5.00 / 2) (#6)
by Vladinator on Mon Dec 20, 2004 at 09:19:46 AM GMT

Far worse I think than anyone before or since. It was not for nothing that the worst insult you could utter when I worked in medicine was, "He went to the Dr. Mengele school of medicine" or "He subscribes to the Dr. Mengele theory of bedside mannor."

"It's clearly a budget. It's got a lot of numbers in it. - G.W. Bush"
