Unless that salary cap is $0, which is what they are going to get if they continue this idiotic tantrum.

It's nice to see that the smashing success and 17 years of labor peace in the NFL shines as an example to... absolutely no one.

Outcome?
Season saved, no salary cap.
Season saved, salary cap.
One season lost, no salary cap.
One season lost, salary cap.
Multiple seasons lost, no salary cap.
Multiple seasons lost, salary cap.
League and players come up with bullshit temporary CBA to salvage 2005 playoffs, re-lockout next July with absolutely no progress made. Lather, rince, repeat.
League folds.

WHA here we come.

I knew Bettman was going to pull this shit. I hope the finally fire his ass. HE is the problem at this point, I am convinced. I am begining to agree with Chris Chelios' sentiments in the last NHL strike.

I blame the players. (5.00 / 1) (#2)

They really don't give a shit whether they run the NHL into bankruptcy, as long as they get theirs.  Poor Sergei, he needs his 3.4 million, and can't possibly get by on 2.9.  Whatever.  Like I said, the cap works wonders for the NFL, and I don't see a lot of NFL players earning poverty wages.

And don't try to trot out this "temporary salary rollback," either.  The players are willing to throw away the season over this, and get paid nothing.  So it's not really like they're offering the league any kind of concession here.

You couldn't POSSIBLY be more wrong. The owners want to abdicate THEIR responsibility on the backs of the players. Bullshit on that. If the OWNERS would stop acting like the Rangers, who will pay top dollar for a shit-tastic losing team, we wouldn't be in this mess. If no one will offer more than 2.9mil for Sergei, then that's all he'll make - or he can make a LOT  less playing in Europe.

The players offered up a QUARTER of their earnings, which would save the league well over 1 Billion dollars, and give them more than enough time to get their shit together - but they're not interested in personal responsibility - they just want to make the money, and leave the headaches to someone else, namely the players.
