Take a look at This shit right here. While I have southern roots, I can appriciate the sentiment expressed in this screed, if not the language. :-)

Well... (5.00 / 2) (#20)

It's time you Kerry voters moved to the it's-time-to-get-over-this-shit stage.  Let's face it, you candidate fucking lost.  The people have spoken.

If only Kerry's supporters showed as much class as Kerry himself did in defeat.

Enough already!  Get over it!

If I weren't nailed to the penis, I'd be pushing up the daisies!

the Democrats move on to the let's-find-a-presidential-candidate-who-isn't-a-total-joke stage.  Kerry's the worst candidate for President since... well, since Bob Dole.

in event of a full scale civil war, the red states practically have fucking missle silos coming out of their dicks, so we'd really stand no chance. i mean, like, your fucking mom's house is a missile launch station, right? they're every where, like your mom.

The guy who shot himself trumps whoever wrote that. At least he didn't bore us all with a pile of meandering statistics, he got straight to the point.

I knew I shouldn't have used the internet today.

I didn't hear about this one.

Actually, that's not nearly as lame as shooting yourself over a Packers game (that happens quite regularly) but it comes close.

Not all Democrats are anti gun. I'm not.

It always amused me how the media painted him as a loony-left liberal, when he's really moderate in a lot of ways.

As for me, I really don't care one way or another about gun-control.

We can't allow freedoms to be taken away. If they take away guns, what else will they take?

simply because I don't think gun-control solves anything, and I don't believe in useless legislation.  Waste of time and resources.

However, to play D.A., Europe has lots of gun control, very low crime rates, and people don't seem to feel they are any less free.

Gun control (none / 0) (#21)
by l33t j03 on Thu Nov 11, 2004 at 04:48:48 PM GMT

A lot of Europeans I know feel less free when it comes to guns, but in the end they can pretty much own anything we can. Some things, like supressors, are actually easier to get there.

The 'less free' part tends to come from the fact that they have to show a need to their government before they can buy a particular gun. That and their government's absolutely irrational aversion to any sort of self defense.

by Vladinator on Thu Nov 11, 2004 at 09:17:27 AM GMT

feeling is kind of subjective, isn't it? Also, this isn't Europe. They allow boobies on TV in Europe, and as a pro family values guy, I'm suprised you'd express a desire that we emulate them at all.

Merely playing Devil's Advocate. (5.00 / 1) (#19)
by Beef on Thu Nov 11, 2004 at 09:36:35 AM GMT

And they don't do everything wrong in Europe.

I hate the term "family values."  I value human life and traditional social institutions, and my views on these matters are quite moderate on the American spectrum of things.  I have no problem whatsoever with boobies on TV.  I think that broadcasting should conform to local community standards and expectations of decency.  Such things are highly subjective.

Incidentally, I find people's fear of naked bodies to be highly amusing.  We're all nekkid under our clothes, after all.

News Flash: (5.00 / 1) (#2)
by Beef on Wed Nov 10, 2004 at 01:08:02 PM GMT

Indiana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado, Utah, and Arizona are not in the south. Neither are Ohio, Iowa, and Nevada. Missouri and Oklahoma are only marginally in the south. All red states.

And there are plenty of "red" counties also not in the South.. Most of New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Michigan, Illinois, and California are, in fact, "red".

(Note: this map "reverses" red and blue.)

So, either this guy has his rage misdirected, or doesn't know what he's talking about. He's also taking all of the reasons people vote GOP, rolling them up into one package, and applying them all to one region.

Some people vote GOP because they are against redefining marriage. (A lot of people against redefining marriage also vote Democrat.)

Some people vote GOP because they want lower taxes.

Some people vote GOP because they want less government interference in their lives (and a lot of people vote Democrat for exactly the same reason).

I get intensely irritated at anyone who tries to divide the country - red states v. blue states, south v. north, retro (old and busted) v. metro (new hotness). This is all a bunch of nonsense designed to "motivate party bases" and is bad for democracy. To Southerners who think the blue states are dens of immorality, and to blue-staters who think the South is full of ignorant rednecks:

Shut the fuck up, you don't know what you're talking about, you don't understand the first thing about America, you fail it.

You can get pretty riled up can't you?  :-)

I think that this person who wrote this is doing it more on a 'Denis Leary' type rant than anything else, not to be taken totally seriously.

Vlad does have southern roots, as do I, but I see a lot of truth in what the writer said as well as a lot of bullshit!  It's a bigoted rant against southerners in a 'surrealist' way.  It is to be taken tongue in cheek.......unless of course this guy really is crazy......then I can say he took some real issues and turned them into a huge pile of 'crap' that is just blown way out proportion.

Just for the record......the original division colors were 'blue and gray'.

Calm down and think for a minute where you are reading this.........TROLLS ARE US.......

Are you completely sure? Because I am seeing similar sentiments all across the Blogisphere. On both sides. It's getting annoying.

I'm allowed to be annoyed.

Sometimes......... (none / 0) (#8)
by xxxxxxxxxx on Wed Nov 10, 2004 at 06:58:15 PM GMT

I think that very little you read in Blogs is serious or ever totally honest.  Why do I say that?  Because most people I have come to understand do not want it to be serious, they want it to be humorous, juvenile, pornographic, etc., not something you would really have to sit down and think about.

In my starting here a long time ago, I took everyone seriously and got upset over everything, now I just sort of read it, toss salt over my shoulder and move on.  I do that with just about everything I read online other than legitemate sites that carry news and current events.

There is so much out here that is just plain fantasy and/or nasty things said about others or pictures put up to make fun of and belittle many.  So why would I take what they guy wrote seriously?

Yes, You have the right to be annoyed, but remember that when you get annoyed at that, they have gotten exactly what they were looking for.....and the very reason they did it.  A reaction!

I probably am being trolled, but not in the sense of "you put me and my buddies down, y'all are gonna pay when the South done rises agin," more in the sense of I've heard so much about two Americas and polarization and all this rot that it's starting to wear on me.

by xxxxxxxxxx on Wed Nov 10, 2004 at 10:16:53 AM GMT

And damnit, I live in the South, was born and reared here.  It bothers me sometimes to no end though!

Guess what saves me is that my parents were not native southerners actually and they had a lot of European influence from their parents and grandparents.  Neither were prejudice, rich or big on Civil War stuff.  Kind of thought it was sad and a time in our history to remember as a way of not going there again.  Sadly many are too ignorant to see that....they think it is something grand and glorious to do (re-enactments!).

Sigh.....I am thinking more and more of moving to Australia!  Kargaroos and Koala's!  Sounds good to me!
