Custom chemical company Isotec, in Miamisburg OH, experienced an explosion of a storage tank on 9.21.2003 near 10AM EDT. Many people in a several mile radius, including the Dayton Mall area, have been asked to evacuate. Isotec, now a subsidiary of Sigma-Aldrich, made custom chemical isotopes.

unless you're engulfed in a cloud of nitrus oxide. In which case I finally have an audience for my lame slashdot-rehash material. ;-)

On a more serious note, my first reaction on reading this was "it's our own chernobyl", but it looks like from the article that they aren't too concerned about that or feel that it will reach that stage.

Of course, there's a huge difference between housing isotopes and running a nuclear reactor.

I live about 10 miles from a Nuclear Power Plant and believe me, there is a huge difference. Worked there for a short while with some Engineers implementing changes they made into the log books for the workers to go by in the plant.

You would not believe the routine you have to have down pat to dress out and go into the reactor area. I did it a couple of times and never got "crapped up" but its very serious and you make one little mistake and WHAM, they rush you off to the showers and scrub you down!
