I was looking for stuff to make WindowMaker/blackbox/fluxbox kewler than what it already is. So I trot off to Freshmeat and started to look through the windowmanager criteria and some how came across DockApps.org. now I have all kinds of 500p3r d0p3 stuff running in the SLIT in blackbox.

I now have frequently updated weather, spaceweather (i gotta know the X-ray intensity), a mandlebrot generator, master audio control, wmUpMon, wminet, a new moonclock, (freakin') miniCHESS, etc, etc. You name it, the folks at DockApp do it. So if you are looking to spice up your desktop with some rather easy to compile and install wmapplets, then the above links are for j00!
Sorry Winduhs users, you'll need to build your linux system before you can enjoy the likes of this story. Here is a pretty picture to drool over, though.
ps. for those of you wondering what this does to the load average: with every thing running, I average 0.0 to 0.2 unless I run seti with the wmseti applet. Seti is just processor heavy period, no way around it unless you -nice .25 (or so). Keep in mind, none of this is memcache heavy. During the screen shot, it appears that the proc.load shot up to 2.8, not to worry though, it drops right back down. The machine (AMD1.46G/512MB) does not seem to suffer over all. |
