The deaths are suspicious as they were found with drug paraphernalia, including needles, pipes and the cause of death is being blamed on monoxide poison from six Propane or kerosene heaters that were on the bus.
Investigators said the bus may have been owned by the late bluegrass pioneer Bill Monroe. Emergency workers found memorabilia from Monroe and Johnny Cash on the bus, such as autographed pictures.
Campbell was a member of The Sidemen, a band of Nashville session players, and had toured and recorded as leader of his own band.
The Carter-Cash family has suffered great loss this year in losing June in May, Johnny in October and now this loss, which is under investigation, has caused a lot of sorrow for the famous family.
Having grown up in Virginia, I am always reminded that June Carter got her start here and that her family was from this state. Mothers Maybelle Carter and her family started out in 1929 and made some of the first Country Music recordings made. When the act broke up, Maybelle continued the tradition with adding daughters Anita and June and calling themselves Mother Maybelle and the Carter Sisters.
The Carters' harmony singing still inspires artists today and Maybelle's "Carter lick" on the guitar has become one of the most influential techniques in country music.
June Carter studied acting in New York at the urging of Elia Kazan who had seen her perform in Nashville. She gave up the chance to have an acting career when she agreed to go on the road with Johnny Cash. The rest is history of a legendary music pairing.
To my way of thinking, the Cash/Carter union blended two very talented and innovative performers. They paved the way for many in Country music and Rock and Roll. The harmonies of the Carter Family can be definitely seen as an influence with modern groups like the Dixie Chicks.
Many times tragedy goes with greatness and like any other family; this one has survived hardships, sadness and loss. Hopefully the case will find that it was an accidental death for Rosey Nix and Jimmy Campbell and though it is sad, it will not be a case of foul play.
