"I can't believe somebody could be so cruel," said Elaine Clouse, a 55-year-old employee of Kentucky Gages on Robey Street in Franklin. "They kept it under refrigeration or in storage for around a week. To think that somebody could hate me so much or that there's a cult around here. ..."
But FPD Officer Art McFadden, who went to Clouse's office Monday, said he declined to take the case at first because he didn't have enough information.
"I suggested to her to positively ID the dog," he said.
Frustrated that McFadden had declined to investigate, Clouse went to Kentucky Highways Maintenance Barn on Hwy. 1008, where Spice had been taken Dec. 6 after she was found lying on 31-W by highway maintenance worker James Stanley.
Clouse met with Keith Mueller, the superintendent of the barn, showed him the cigar box containing flesh and told him, "I've got to know if this is Spice and that somebody did this to her."
Spice's body was exhumed, her legs pulled apart and her thick, white hair pushed away from her genital area.
That's when "We saw the spots that were cut off," Mueller said.
Clouse had been searching for Spice until late Friday, Dec. 6, and early Saturday, Dec. 7. She said she didn't know that Spice had been killed until Saturday morning, after making many calls - including one to WFKN-FM requesting an announcement about a missing Spice - and visits to people who may have seen her.
