About the shows ...... (none / 0) (#6)

You talk about that were on Sci-Fi and not on NBC and the others, well, it is because they were not willing to put out the budget and the imagination that Sci-Fi was to produce and have these shows on air.  When you are owned by a multi-million dollar based company, you can produce tv worth watching....NBC, CBS, ABC, etc do not want to put out that much money, remember they are still free over the old antennae..unlike the others who are paid programming and therefore have much bigger budgets.

Farscape, Stargate, Stargate Atlantis, etc are good Science Fiction and I enjoy them.  I do not enjoy the serial crap you get on the others.

Lets face it, broadcast tv is in love with comedians, reality based programming....its cheap and its what sells right now....for those who want more, they pay for it.

1. SciFi is owned by NBC-Universal
2. If ENT were to make the jump to SciFi, they'd have to drastically *reduce* their production costs.  By a lot.  Craptastic UPN spends a lot more producing ENT than SciFi does producing SG1.
3. Broadcasting a show like SG1 on NBC would net a lot more $$$ for the company, IF there were an audience big enough to justify it.  Fact is, people would rather watch Women in Bikinis Eating Bugs than thoughtful science fiction.

Enterprise was the last gasp of science fiction on broadcast network TV.  It was a long downward spiral that began with NBC dumping DSV and Earth2 (fantastic show, BTW), and will hit bottom this May.

But, SG1 does air on broadcast television. It's in syndication now, though not the current season. The Syndicated reruns still probibly make the actors more than the first runs on Sci-Fi though.
