I absolutely love this time of year. Everyone gets fired up and politically involved and starts forming an opinion based on what the morning news told them was how they should interpret something one of the candidates said or did.

People start saying crazy entertaining things like if Bush wins pure sulfuric acid will rain down from the skies or a vote for Kerry means you want to give terrorists free reign to rape your pre-teen daughters. Americans don't usually show this kind of energy. They just sit in their homes and watch CSI and eat and be boring. The news outlets don't have enough news so they try to convince us all to care about some made up issue they faked and in depth report about. West Nile Carrying Mosquitos: Multitudinous and Voracious and Ready to Kill You.....coming up next

But around election time people start paying attention. People I work with honestly did not know that the military focused on recruiting poor kids until Michael Moore's movie showed them evidence of it in his fake-hometown of Flint. They also didn't know that you could get a Purple Heart for virtually any inury sustained in a combat zone, or that every GW Bush speech is essentially the same 10 phrases jumbled in a different order.

Yes, election time is great for me. It doesn't last long enough to teach people to actually think critically about anything, but it does provide some good entertainment.

What did Kerry get those 3 purple hearts for?

My pet notion is that he sprained an ankle, broke a toe, then got shot in the buttocks (friendly fire?).

The circumstances for each one of them depend on who you talk to. For instance, some of his crew say the first one came from or during enemy fire, other crew and his commander say there was no enemy fire, etc.

What isn't disputed is that none of them took him off duty, or were anything other than minor wounds.

In the end it seems like a funny thing to argue. The other guy didn't even go to Vietnam and the few vets I know will tell you the Purple Hearts flowed like water to pretty much any officer who wanted them. Of course, the other guy also isn't a liberalist jackass, but that is beside this particular point.

I know that two of those Purple Hearts were a result of self-inflicted injuries.

The majority of Purple Hearts won is because he's a clumsy oaf.

Ummm, how do you know this??? Certainly you don't believe everything you read on the internet?

Kerry may have gotten purple hearts for being clumsy or for being a bad luck schlep rock, but I just don't see him doing that intentionally.

What bothers me about elections is that each side digs up as much bullshit as they possibly can to dish out on the other candidate. Been that way for a good while and its nauseating. So much of it is trumped up and blown out of proportion.

My husband is a Viet-Nam vet and he is for Kerry and thinks he will, in the long run, be better for our country than Bush has been. I agree.

My major consideration here is that John Edwards is the running mate and certainly has more character and life experience than Dick has!! Being brought up poor has taught him a thing or two that being brought up in an influential family would not. I also like his wife, she is a normal, on the heavy side lady who is a Mother, a cool woman and isn't all about money and who makes the best designer clothes. (( I still am having a hard time forgetting about Nancy Reagan spending $10,000 per toilet for the White House during her and Ronnie's tenure. (Remember, there are at least 20 bathrooms in there) That is just way too pretentious in my way of thinking!)) Damn, you can go to Home Depot and get a whole toilet for less than $300. and they are NICE!

Lets be frank here, its a place to shit, not a place to entertain guests and high officials. Nobody cares when they gotta go if its a $10K or a $100. toilet. Pretty much all your worried about is if its clean and if somebody remembered toilet paper!!

I want someone who isn't a 'good ole boy' in the White House, who doesn't kiss ass to every money making representative there is. The Bush family has long been a kiss ass family and I for one am not so sure they are so damn honest either.

I am not saying that anyone is wrong or stupid for their opinions on who they want to win the election, I am just saying that for my vote, its Kerry/Edwards. There are tons of stuff on both sides to make you wonder, they are politicians and lawyers so you can't expect perfection from any of them. And lets face it, Honesty is not one of their strong suits either!

I also really like Elizabeth Edwards (although the whole shooting-yourself-up-with-hormones-so-you-can-have-a-baby-at-age-52 thing is kinda creepy, and damned irresponsible, IMHO). But the wife of the running-mate makes very little difference to me. Otherwise, I would never have voted for Clinton (that censorous biatch shouldn't be allowed within 2 miles of the White House).

but I guess that depends on whether you are very healthy and how much you want kids. Evidently want outwieghed the risk factor. I can understand that, very much so.

I am 47 with a 11 year old, didn't have her until I was 36. To be honest, I was always told I would never have children, then surprise, surprise! 36 is not old, neither is 47 really, but it is for having a first child. But I would have risked a lot of things to have a child, still would if that were possible.

As for Hillary Clinton, yes, she is a Bitch, but at times I like her for here openess and her boldness. It is tough being a woman in politics and you have to have thick skin and be fearless in many ways. Women are still dealing with the 'Good ole Boys Club' when it comes to politics. Hopefully I will see that change in my lifetime. :-) I can hope anyway.

you are ready for children at that age and enjoy them so much. I bet your Mum was very glad to have you!!

I do not know what I would do without my daughter as she has been the best thing I have ever had happen in my life.

But by that age, the chances of chromosomal problems are so great, it just becomes selfish. There's a big difference between 36 and 52.

Actually, I wasn't referring to Hillary. I was referring to Tipper (wife of Clinton's running-mate). Can't stand that woman.
